The Arhuaco mochila bag has gained the status of one of the visual symbols of Colombia in general – thanks mainly to the urban youth using it to affirm and connect with their indigenous heritage. The stylistic minimalism of the bags blends well with the modern look of the fashion-conscious generation, while still preserving the deeper symbolic meanings embedded in them by their makers, the indigenous inhabitants of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains on the Caribbean cost.
